A debate is a friendly talk where two teams have different ideas about the same question. Each team tries to explain why their idea is best, using good reasons.

It's like a game of ideas! Nobody has to be mean — you win by thinking clearly and speaking well. 🌟

🎤 Speakers — the team members who share ideas.
🧑‍🏫 Moderator — usually the teacher! They keep time and make sure everyone takes turns.
👏 Audience — the rest of the class. They listen carefully and vote at the end.

Use the P-B-E trick to build a strong point:

P — Point

Say what you think.

"I think recess should be longer."

B — Because

Give your reason.

"Because kids focus better after a break."

E — Example

Show proof or a story.

"For example, after playing I'm ready to read!"

"I believe that…"

"I think… because…"

"My team agrees that…"

"I disagree because…"

"That's a good idea, but…"

"For example, …"

"Another reason is…"

"In conclusion, …"

👂 Listen when the other team is speaking.
🙋 Take turns — wait for your turn to talk.
🧠 Argue the idea, not the person. No put-downs!
🤝 Be a good sport — say "good debate!" at the end.

Opinion: What you think or feel.

Fact: Something true that can be checked.

Reason: The "because" that backs up your idea.

Evidence: Proof, like an example or a number.

Argument: Your idea plus your reasons (not a fight!).

Rebuttal: When you answer the other team's idea.

For / Against: The two sides of the question.

Conclusion: Your big finish — your last words.
